Bounty Hunter is certainly a brand which is making a name for itself in the consumer electronics category. In particular, their range of metal detectors leads the market, and it has done for some time.
Today, we decided to put one of the newer models to the test - the Bounty Hunter Fast Tracker Metal Detector, which is a state of the art metal detector, without a freakishly scary price tag. But if the price is discounted from some of the more advanced models from Bounty Hunter, does that mean that the quality and performance levels also take a tumble? We set out to see.

Bounty Hunter Fast Tracker Metal Detector Features & Specifications
Size & Weight
The weight of the Bounty Hunter Fast Tracker Metal Detector is similar to that of most other top end metal detectors currently available - at approximately 4 pounds. This weight is comprised of the handle, which is a standard size, and then a 7.25" interchangeable coil.
Thankfully, this coil is waterproof, and the fact that it can be changed out whenever necessary (Bounty Hunter recommends that you change the coil after every 300 hours of use) makes it a very efficient and cost effective device.
Detection Abilities
This is the area where we were most anticipating a drop off in performance. Of course, if there is a price difference of $200 between this model and the top model in the Bounty Hunter product line, you would certainly expect a small variation in difference.
So - was there a noticeable difference? The answer is yes, but not to the extent that we were expecting. For starters, the device still has all of the nifty on board gadgets that we have come to expect from Bounty Hunter products. For example, there is a discrimination function with sensitivity controls - which will allow you to determine what it is that the machine should be looking for underground.
Additionally, the dual tone audio alerts ensure that picking up and identifying signals is done with ease and confusion is absolutely minimized.
Interface & Controls
You'll notice that the Bounty Hunter Fast Tracker Metal Detector is a whole lot smaller and more compact than the other Bounty Hunter models - and there is a good reason for this. The manufacturer's goal in this model was to create an easy to use, compact metal detector - which still maintained the same level of functionality as other sophisticated metal detectors.
In our opinion, they have done this well. The coil for example is about 3/4 of the size of a standard metal detector, and the user controls are packed in to a small unit about half way down the stem of the device.

Overall, the Bounty Hunter Fast Tracker Metal Detector works well, and is a huge credit to the Bounty Hunter brand. Like many other models from this manufacturer, the performance is on par with the top models in the line - hence the Fast Tracker gets 5 stars out of 5 from us.
